In an interesting development in corporate governance norms in India, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has brought out 3 circulars (Circular 17/2011, 18/2011, 21/2011) titled “Green Initiative in the Corporate Governance”.
These circulars allow companies to send out notices, annual reports, service of documents, auditors’ report, balance sheets through an electronic medium and also permit electronic voting. Matters of security et al have been taken care of by importing provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 thereby improving effectiveness with new and improved measures.
A laudable and eco-friendly initiative indeed.
